8 things all funeral plan providers should do
Taking out a prepaid funeral plan is more than simply signing up to a service. It’s about protecting the finances and future of yourself and your loved ones.
It’s vitally important that you choose a funeral planning company that is trusted and reputable, but is also going to help you choose the right plan for you and support you along the way.
The level of service that you receive can vary between providers, so in order to help you make the right choice, here are eight things that all good funeral plan providers should do.
Help you to make an informed decision
When looking to buy a prepaid funeral plan it’s important that you are informed about the process and what’s involved before making a decision.
A good funeral plan provider should take the time to explain your options and make sure you understand everything from what’s covered in your plan, to your payment options and everything in between.
There are many different funeral plans available with varying offerings, some of which may not meet your requirements. Therefore, it’s crucial that your funeral plan provider listens to your needs, and helps you choose the plan that is the right one for you.
Here at Prosperous Life, we understand that the decision to take out a funeral plan can be a little daunting, and sometimes overwhelming. We make it our priority to ensure that you find out everything you need to know about us, and our different funeral plan options to help you make the right decision.
Offer ongoing care & support
Taking out a funeral plan is a huge step towards planning for later life. So, you may want to consider the levels of care and support that you will receive from your funeral plan provider.
A good provider will make sure that they’re easily contactable should you have any issues or concerns. Before buying your plan, you should look for reassurance that you’ll be able to get in touch with them at a time of need and they will be there to help.
Customer care and support is our utmost priority here at Prosperous Life. We offer continued advice & guidance to our customers and their loved ones throughout the whole process and going forward. Whether you have a question about your plan, or simply need some friendly support, our dedicated funeral plan managers are available 5 days a week.
As part of your Welcome Pack, you will find enclosed a smaller funeral organiser pack. This pack has been designed to support you when discussing your plan with your loved ones. It helps to explain the benefits of the plan to not only you, but for them when the time comes.
Take care of your funeral requirements
The benefits of taking out a prepaid funeral plan include being able to arrange your funeral exactly the way you want it.
A good funeral plan provider is one that you trust to take care of your arrangements and grant your wishes when the time comes. This includes everything from your preferred choice between burial or cremation, to any special requests you may have for the day itself.
A Prosperous Life funeral plan gives you the opportunity to add any special requests to your plan and specify the exact arrangements that you want. We endeavour to fulfill your wishes, and give you the opportunity to make changes to your plan at a later date should you need to. Our promise to you is that your wishes will be granted.
Ensure your money is protected
When buying a funeral plan, it’s likely that your plans will be in place for years to come before needing to be used. With that being said, it’s vital that you know your money is being held securely and the funds will be available when the time comes.
With a Prosperous Life funeral plan you can have peace of mind knowing that your money is held securely. All customer money is held in the Great British Funeral Trust. All funds are completely safeguarded, and payments are promptly made to your chosen Funeral Director.
The Great British Funeral Trust is managed by independent trustees and actuaries who are responsible for ensuring that at the time of need everything is in place to fulfil your funeral plan as promised.
Give you more than just the dreary funeral talk
We completely understand that we need to inform and educate our customers on the dull world of funerals. It’s part of the job, and we need to make sure our customers fully understand the service that we provide.
However, we see no reason why we can’t go beyond that.
As a funeral plan provider we recognise that no one likes to talk about death. That’s why our mission is to help people enjoy life by getting their preparation done and dusted. We like to think we are doing a pretty good job of helping people in that endeavour, and we regularly post articles on subjects such as food, drink and recreation to give you some helpful inspiration.
If you’re looking for a prepaid funeral plan that’s transparent, well explained and secure – that’s us. If you’re looking for a provider that’s dedicated to helping people celebrate later life – that’s us, too. Our reviews speak for themselves, we’re rated 4.7/5 on Trustpilot with over 5,400 genuine reviews from our customers.
Diligently understand the COVID-19 guidelines for funerals
Whilst there does appear to be light at the end of the tunnel as we write this in February 2021, we are still some time away from a full relaxation of restrictions. It’s vitally important that all funeral plan providers are well versed on the COVID-19 guidelines for funerals, and keep up to date with them as the guidance changes over time.
While funeral plan providers don’t run the funeral service themselves, they do have a duty of care to ensure that they only work with reputable funeral directors that are implementing all of the requested Government guidelines.
For as long as it remains requested, PPE such as face masks should be worn, social distancing measures should be put in place, and attendance numbers should be kept to the required levels. The end may be in sight, but until then funeral services need to be handled diligently, and we have the utmost confidence in our national network of funeral directors.
Fully engaged with and supportive of upcoming FCA regulation
The Financial Conduct Authority, or FCA, will take responsibility for the regulation of the pre-paid funeral plan sector in the summer of 2022.
This means that a set of rules will be published for all funeral plan providers to follow. These rules help safeguard customers, ensuring that they receive the service as stated in their plan, and that their money is responsibly held until their time of need.
All reputable funeral plan providers should be supportive of this and actively engaging with the FCA throughout the process. Companies that continue without authorisation from the FCA following regulation will be acting illegally.
Make you feel like a valued customer
Finally, funeral plan providers should not simply take your money and leave the service dormant until the time of need. What are the perks of taking out a plan with the provider? Do they reward you with any vouchers or gift cards? Perhaps they run a prize draw, which is something we do exclusively for our Prestige Club members.
Our customers can access exclusive benefits, simply by referring a friend or a family member. When they recommend our services to a loved one, and they decide to take a funeral plan out, both them and their friend are rewarded with a cashback reward of £100.
Through our sister company, Prosperous Estate Planning we are also able to support our customers with a free estate planning review, to discuss subjects such as reviewing or creating your will, Lasting Power of Attorney, Prepaid Probate or Asset Protection Trusts.
We are also on hand for your loved ones following your passing if they need support with services such as managing your estate and probate. So we really are on hand for all of your later life planning needs.
